Hybrid Monetization

An app model earning from both in-app purchases (IAP) and advertising (IAA) at once; when a title shifts toward hybrid mid-campaign, its inventory economics and its users' value change under a running campaign.

Hybrid monetization means an app earns from both in-app purchases (IAP) and advertising (IAA) rather than from one of them. Pure IAA titles sell every impression they can, so their inventory is plentiful and comparatively cheap; pure IAP titles show few ads and guard the play experience. A hybrid title sits between the two and, importantly for a buyer, can move along that line while your campaign is running.

That movement is what catches people out. When a publisher shifts an ad-led title toward hybrid, ad load falls, eCPM rises, and the slice of the game's population you keep reaching stops matching the cohorts your decisions were built on, so the campaign degrades without anything changing on your side. Watch for eCPM and per-source cost drifting together and re-read the Source App ID report before concluding that a creative has burned out.

Cost on that source doubled in a week with the same creatives, the app went hybrid, we did not break anything.
