WapClick
Mobile carrier-billing traffic monetization model, common in Tier-2/3 mobile markets.
WapClick is a mobile carrier-billing traffic monetization model in which users subscribe to paid content services charged directly to their phone balance, often in one or two clicks from mobile internet traffic. It thrives in Tier-2/3 mobile markets where card penetration is low but prepaid mobile balances are universal.
Buyers monetize WapClick with cheap mobile formats — popunders, redirects, push — targeting specific carriers, since billing only fires on mobile-network connections, not Wi-Fi. Flows differ per country (1-click, 2-click, PIN), and conversion economics hinge on the carrier and flow type. The structural risks are refund and complaint rates that get whole traffic sources cut off, and regulators periodically shutting down flows overnight.
In buyer speech
“The 1-click WapClick flow on that African carrier converts insanely from popunder — just keep it mobile-data only, Wi-Fi traffic is wasted spend.”
