Tech & Tracking

Tracking

The practice of tracking user actions and conversions across a funnel.

Tracking is the practice of recording user actions and conversions across a funnel so each result can be tied back to its origin. It spans the full chain — click, landing view, registration, deposit — using click IDs, cookies, SubIDs and server-to-server calls to stitch a user's journey together. Reliable tracking is what turns raw spend into readable data you can actually optimize against.

Buyers set up tracking before launching anything, because untracked traffic is money spent blind. In practice this means wiring the ad source, tracker and offer together and verifying the click ID passes end to end. Cookie loss, iOS restrictions and broken parameter passing are the usual culprits behind mismatched numbers, so most serious buyers rely on server-side postbacks rather than pixel-only tracking.

In buyer speech

Double-check tracking is passing the click ID all the way to the offer before we scale — I don't want to fly blind again.
