Anchor Text
The clickable, keyword-carrying text of a hyperlink.
Anchor text is the visible, clickable text of a hyperlink — the words a user reads before clicking and one of the signals search engines use to understand what the linked page is about. Anchors are commonly classified as exact-match (the target keyword itself), partial-match, branded, naked URL, or generic ('click here'), and the mix of these across a backlink profile is a core SEO variable.
Buyers doing SEO for casino or betting sites obsess over anchor distribution because an unnatural profile — say, half the links reading 'best online casino' — is one of the easiest footprints for an algorithmic penalty. The practical rule is to keep exact-match anchors a small minority and let branded and URL anchors dominate. When ordering guest posts or niche edits, specify the anchor explicitly; vendors default to whatever is easiest.
In buyer speech
“We're way too heavy on exact-match anchors for the bonus page — order the next batch of links with branded anchors only.”
